My name is Kelly Murray and I am a licensed and nationally certified professional Massage Therapist. I am an active member of the American Massage Therapy Association and I carry full professional liability and malpractice insurance. I am an active Certified Nurse Assistant and I hold current certification in CPR and First Aid.
I have always held a great interest in alternative and complimentary healthcare. Growing up, my stepmother was a licensed and professional Massage Therapist. She and my Father, sergeant of Police, were my role models for the importance of nutrition, activity, rest and pursuing healthcare services that complimented Western medical practices. At a very young age I would give many of my family members back rubs in exchange for dimes and many of them told me that one day I would make a fabulous Massage Therapist. Around that time, complimentary alternative medicine (also known as CAM) was becoming very mainstream and gaining a lot of popularity, and for good reason.
In my first two years of college I pursued Art Education to collaborate my passion for education with my talent in the fine arts. After the birth of our second child, I decided to pursue nursing to fulfill my advocacy for health and to be of significant service to my community. One year into studying nursing, a lightbulb went off for me, and I realized that although I admire the career of nursing and that the classes I took would be invaluable, that it was not my calling and that I was destined for a different path in healthcare.
I followed my childhood dream and enrolled full time in Massage Therapy school. I commuted 3 hours everyday and in October of 2009 I graduated as Valedictorian of my class. I completed 1000 hours in kinesiology, anatomy and physiology, pathology, theory, ethics and completed over 170 hours of massage treatments. All of my nursing classes were of great benefit!
I specialize in deep tissue, bamboo, swedish and prenatal. I believe that each massage should be customized to each person. In massage therapy, there are definite indications and contraindications for treatment and I listen to each clients needs, check in throughout the session to make sure the client is comfortable, and I develop treatment plans so that together we can maximize your experience and benefits. I believe Massage Therapy will follow the path that nursing did, many LMT's hold degrees outside of their diplomas and I believe in the near future we will see more LMT's in hospital and clincal settings working adjunct to Western medical practitioners and physicians.
In my free time I enjoy independently studying and researching human behavior and psychology, organic gardening, writing, music, painting, photography, dance, and spending time outside with my family and friends. I am currently in a bridge program for my Master's degree in counseling. I feel that through combining both my medical background and passion in human behavior that I can help my patients reach optimum health and joy.
